holotropic: "moving
towards wholeness"
Holotropic
Breathwork is a powerful approach to self-exploration and
healing that integrates insights from modern consciousness research,
anthropology, various depth psychologies, transpersonal psychology,
Eastern spiritual practices and mystical traditions of the world.
It is a highly personal,
experiential process that uses breathing techniques to clear physical,
mental, and emotional blocks and access non-ordinary states of consciousness for the purpose of healing and growth. Lying on a mat,
each person uses their breath and the evocative music in the room
to help let go of the day-to-day “thinking mind” and
gain access to a deeper state of consciousness. This activates
one’s
natural inner healing mechanism.
As we learn to allow this
innate healing intelligence to come forth, meaningful experiences
result. We begin to access a place of deeper knowing that
is always there, but we often lose touch with. Blockages
and old patterns begin to release, healing expands, and we begin
to feel more connected to ourself and our own wisdom. Creativity
flows, inspiration arises, aliveness and joy emerge.
Each session
may also include some focused body work, and mandala drawing is used
afterwards to help integrate insights.
Holotropic
Breathing is grounded in almost fifty years of observations and clinical
research by Dr. Stanislav Grof, who has been observing and studying the healing potentials of non-ordinary states of consciousness since 1955. Dr. Grof is one of the co-founders of the field of transpersonal
psychology in 1969 and is one of it's leading theoreticians.
He is the author of The Holotropic Mind, Psychology of
the Future, Beyond
the Brain, The Adventure of Self Discovery, Spiritual
Emergency, and The Cosmic Game, among others. Click

Beth Morris, B.A., Adler Certified Trauma Therapist, began her amazing breath- work journey in 1991 with Stan Grof, which was a seminal life experience for her. Breathwork changed her life's direction on the deepest level and satisfied her lifelong search for the inexplicable. In the breath, below the story and the emotional upheaval, she encountered the silence, the peace and the true Self for which she had thirsted her entire life. This solid base became the foundation of her work with others.
Beth has facilitated breathwork workshops for many years in Canada and the United States. In addition to Shiatsu, she has studied many body therapies, all of which are integrated into her workshops. She lives in Victoria, BC and she and her partner, Jim, are devotees of their beloved teacher, Gangaji. She is a delirious lover of Rumi, a member of two classical choirs, an avid walker, animal lover, and a rock and roll drummer. |
Helena Benda is a certified
Holotropic Breathwork practitioner trained by Dr. Stanislav Grof. She
was born in Czechoslovakia, left for the West in 1968 where she,
together with her husband, reared two children, and now has a
granddaughter. She studied at the Charles University in Prague
and later, even during her many years as a businesswoman in Seattle,
has not stopped learning amazing stuff. She first learned of
Stan Grof and his work in the late 1990's. Helena considers Stan
Grof to be an extraordinary teacher because of his unwavering
deference to each person's own inner teacher.
