Meditation And Teeth – What Is The Connection?

Many people aren’t aware that they have bruxism until it’s too late. Bruxism is the unconscious grinding and clenching of your teeth while you are asleep. Because you are asleep, you are unaware that you are grinding or clenching your teeth, until you wake up in the morning with a headache or sore jaws.

How To Relieve Teeth Problem Through Meditation?

There are plenty of other symptoms that are caused by bruxism and every one of them is painful and unwanted by most people. However, there are a few things you can try that just might alleviate all that unwanted pain.

The first thing you should try to relieve yourself of bruxism is meditation. There are plenty of scientific papers and research that shows you can relieve stress by simply meditating 30 minutes to an hour before going to sleep. These same reports suggest that relieving stress will help ease the need to grind your teeth while you are asleep. It may take you a few days, or even weeks before you begin to notice the full effects of meditation but that shouldn’t stop you from pushing on with it. Give it the time that is required for it to work the right way and you will soon know all of its benefits.

By simply reducing your level of stress with lifestyle changes, you may find that you can put an end to this problem. You can often reduce stress by getting more exercise, taking up practices such as yoga or, if you have certain issues in your life that are causing problems, to talk to a therapist. Simpler changes you can make would be listening to your favorite music, going for a walk or get a pet. Most important though is to stop, relax and take a deep breath if you catch your self-finding your teeth during the day. In short, the more you can let go of stress during the day, the less likely you are to be plagued by it at night. Hopefully, this will decrease the grinding of the teeth at night.

Even though it can be difficult to get rid of grinding your teeth at night, it isn’t impossible. It’s necessary to do the legwork of contacting your dentist and maybe even other professionals, to rid yourself of this practice. There are countless benefits of yoga and meditation, but these occur only with faithful, daily practice. Meditation works on the mind and spirit in a way that enhances one’s entire perspective on life. Daily meditation opens the doorway to many different experiences that bring joy and fulfillment.
