Sessions may be assisted by certified practitioners who have completed the Grof Transpersonal Training program. With the aid of music and occasional bodywork, practitioners are directed through breath exercises while lying down. This is meant to encourage a change in the state of a person’s consciousness. Although Holotropic breathwork practice can be done at home and alone, Holotropic breathwork is often carried out in groups. This practice allows people to work together and support each other’s processes. Sessions end with sharing and discussion. Rebirthing Breathwork

This type of breathwork is commonly known as Conscious Energy Breathing. It is based on the principle that all humans carry with them the trauma of their birth experience. This breathwork technique is developed by Leonard Orr, after supposedly reenacting his own birth in his bathtub at home. Because of this ‘life-changing experience’, he was enthused to help others find the same inner peace that he enjoyed during the process. The objective of rebirthing is to help people let go of energy obstructions that have been stored in the body and mind as a result of suppressed suffering, injury, or unwanted circumstances in life. In practicing this breathwork method, participants are asked to lie down, relax, and breathe normally. Through the use of continuous or circular “conscious energy breathing” (CEB), inhibitions surface. This type of breathing is performed using full, deep breaths without retaining air in the lungs. A typical breathing method involves a natural pause between exhale and inhale. The continuous inhaling and exhaling create a “circle” of breath. With CEB, no breaks would be practiced. Instead, continuous breathing in and blowing out of the air is made. While doing these, participants would feel that the tensions of past trauma they have been suppressing are being illuminated. Deep relaxation is used to promote brain waves that lead to the emotional and physical release of subconscious issues and pent-up energy.

 

Clarity Breathwork

This type of breathing technique is based on many of the beliefs focused on by Rebirthing breathwork, but the process does not solely revolve around one’s birthing experience. Clarity breathwork speaks to any and all issues that hold back the healthy flow of energy and air in the body. Clarity breathwork is based on the thought that most of us do not breathe to our full capacity. The main goal of this practice is to teach people how to breathe fully. This may release the emotional energy that keeps them stuck. Therapists, upon teaching the method, would first conduct a comprehensive interview about a patient’s present concerns and thoughts, as well as their past experiences and memories that haunt them. Sessions include in-depth intuitive counseling, somatic exploration, and an hour of continuous or circular “conscious energy breathing” (CEB).

 

Biodynamic Breathwork

Fully known as BioDynamic Breath and Trauma Release System, this practice puts together six elements to find ways of releasing the tension, supporting natural healing, and restructuring internal systems. The six interconnected elements of biodynamic breathwork we mentioned earlier are breath, movement, sound, touch, emotion, and meditation. This technique distinguishes that trauma is piled up in both psychological and physical ways. These traumatic experiences may be locked up and converted to emotional patterns, chronic stress, and blocked energy.  It is the goal of Biodynamic breathwork to restore balance to these systems. Treatment sessions might integrate exercises like CEB and revisiting ingrained memories and sensations.
